We've had a last minute cancellation for Thanksgiving Day weekend leaving our large house—perfect for a family gathering—unoccupied over the holiday weekend.
Watch football on the big screen tv, cook your big Turkey dinner, play on the sand, and warm up in front of the fireplace. This is the perfect opportunity to get away with family and friends and spend some time on the Oregon Coast.
We've launched a new web site and you're looking at it!
The site hasn't changed much from the previous web site. The main reasons for the move were mainly behind the scenes. The old web site was using a plugin that was no longer being maintained.
The main reason for announcing the change is to explain why we haven't blogged about the house in ages, and to let you know that there are new posts coming soon.
We're now introducing Winter Weekend specials. We've been looking for a way to balance the need to book multiple days at a time (to avoid gaps in the calendar and frankly to ensure that people have enough time in the house to relax and enjoy themselves) with the fact that a lot of people can't take an extra day off from work and only have a weekend to visit the coast.
We think we've come up with a pretty good solution that makes the most out of a typical weekend.
We've finally added a Features section to the site. It includes some often asked questions about the floorplan, kitchen supplies, and what to bring to our beach house vacation rental.
Our house, thankfully, has been booked most of the summer so we haven't had much time to visit and see the changes happening in Rockaway Beach lately. We finally visited our house a couple of weeks ago, and we found some significant changes in town.
First, the one thing that Rockaway Beach always seemed to be missing was a salt water taffy and candy store. Thankfully, that void has been filled with a new branch of the Cannon Beach favorite Picnic Basket Candy Store.
We've reduced our rental rates. The new rates are:
The previous rates were $189 for winter and $245 for summer. The rate reductions are based on a better understanding of our costs now that we've owned the house for a few months.
If you are interested about how we determine the rates that we charge, we've provided a detailed explanation below.
We're finally ready to rent the house, and we want to celebrate. We're hosting an holiday party/open house. If you want to get a sneak peek at the house, please feel to come by and say hello.

We've found three new places to eat in Rockaway Beach which is always great news in a small town like Rockway.
The Cow Belle Cafe has good country food. The biscuits and gravy is the best I've found on the coast (Grammy Lucys in Portland has the best in Oregon). The restaurant shares a kitchen with the saloon next door. If you are unaware, you may get startled by the divider opening as the saloon places an order.
Clara's smoke house has great smoked food. It isn't a restaurant per say, but you can't go wrong with their premium smoked salmon.
Now that we've been spending a lot of time out at the beach with our dogs, we've become even more aware of the things you should do to make sure your pets are good beach citizens and ensure their safety.
The main thing is to be aware of what your dog is doing and what else is occurring on the beach. If you are too busy watching your pet or watching the tide, your distraction can result in dangerous situations for your pet or other beach users.
